View Full Version : Sequential .obj import script/plugin?

I need to import a real flow sequence as .obj's. EPLA will not work because the point counts are not the same.

Anyone know of a script and/or plugin that will automatically import obj's for its respective frame?

Wasnt there a realflow obj importer available from nextlimit (flow tracer or something like that?)? This used to be the only way you could import realflow sequences to c4d.Its been a few years since I've seen this though.

Not sure if this is helpful but heres the link I found for flowtracer

http://www.pluginz.com/product/10233?category=45&

Also--peranders has the Xlinky plugin that brings in obj sequences I believe.

Here is a primitive solution:
Import one, copy resulting line from command window into script window, create simple loop around it (for, while, if... doesn;'t matter), insert counter variable into command previously pasted, take cover and let run. Takes minutes to make and I am not even a programmer.
Then animate visibilty of the meshes you have imported.... Be aware of motion blurrrrr issues when you select the visibility option of your choice.
Cheers

Thanks JoelD, i will keep flowtracer in mind. For this project i believe that flowtracer will not work.

I need to import each .obj file so that it can be modified, "clipped", with a boolean. This will allow the fluid mesh to look like it is snuggly up against the container. I have tried this with the standard next limit plugin, mesh loader, but the boolean does not recognize the real flow mesh.

The animation is 20 seconds @30 fps. To animate the visibilty of each imported mesh would cause me to go insane. Normally going insane is not a big deal to me, but this project is one of those small paying gigs that needs to be done right away. So if i did go insane it would not be worth it. Hehe. :)

Thanks for the scripting advice. Maybe i can modify it to make the visibility animate sequentially also.

Doing a search I found this--

MAybe ask ascent for the script he mentions.

and a link to the xlinky thread

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=274492&highlight=xlinky

again--I dont assume this will solve your problem.

The clipping options in RealFlow are pretty powerful, given some more exploration I'm sure you can achieve far better results than having to resort to boleans (ouch).

I did not know there were clipping options in real flow. :) I will look into that. Thanks.

I don't think Xlinky will works as far as I remember it used a proprietary format didn't it.

Yeah, you can use a volume daemon and delete anything that enters (or exits it, depending on how you set it) but the script I've used can be found in this thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=302751) although there's another that I think I found on the frenchcinema4d site that was similar but a little different. The best way to get all those files into c4d is using the browser to drag them all in at once, although if I remember correctly, the script in the above thread fires them off in backwards order if you do it that way. The other downside to this method is if you need them to start on frame other than 1, you'll have to tweak the xpresso (and I can't help there, sorry). But trust me, I've done the boolean thing, you're better clipping it out in realflow. :-)

FWIW, a lwo sequence works quite nicely as well as the obj one. Hope this helps.. I've played a fair bit with bringing realflow (3 and 4) fluids as well as blender fluids into cinema... I'm no expert by any means, but will help where I can. Just ask :)

Ok thanks for the advice. I'll mess around with the clipping and daemon features.

Have you, or anyone else, been having problems with importing animation from c4d into realflow?

I did not have this problem with rf3. I have even done scenes where i imported entire characters. I can't seem to do that with rf4.

Hmm... I've done a little bit of bringing stuff into realflow 4 from Cinema... I think I used the .sd export... if you're using RF4, be sure to use the RF4 plugins (that you can find on the page where you download the demo, and nowhere else, I think). What little stuff I've done worked, though.
