View Full Version : A bug in Painter XI.5 ?
deecaywonder 12-03-2006, 03:01 AM I guess I stumbled across a Painter XI.5 bug. Try this:
(1) Create a new document.
(2) Add a layer (Layer 1)
(3) Select the Canvas layer, and then select [Canvas][Canvas Sizes...]. Add 400 pixels to bottom.
(4) Select layer 1
(5) Now try to draw at the bottom of the newly added area.
You will found out that you CANNOT paint in that newly added area. However, try save the document and then reopen again. That bottom area in the layer 1 in now accessable.
Is it a well known bug, of something I discovered and should be reported to Corel?
Not something terrible, but hope that someday they can fix it.

Hi,
I've tested to see if it happens to me as well. It does, and I've sent a report to Corel.
Thanks for letting us know so if it happens to anyone else, they'll know the workaround 'til Corel is able to fix the problem.
I actually wonder if the bug is not rather that you can access the newly created area after reopening the file, because you normally have to fit the layer to the canvas size, or in other words, it's a normal behaviour in many Image manipulation apps that you can have layers of a different size than the background layer or canvas?

Well, I thought of that "layers of a different size than the background layer or canvas" theory. But then, if it really is an intended feature, there should be some indicators showing the size of drawable area in each layer. Personally I think this would unnecessarily complicate the layer structure. And honestly, if it REALLY is a feature, then I want a way to turn it off :-I .
And sorry for all the typo I made in the original post. Man, what was I smoking when I wrote it?

Hi,
there is also another way to paint on this "unpaintable" area, just try to move a little bit the layer and undo that operation, you are now able to paint on it. But don't forget to save your file before doing this tip, i don't remember if painter becomes unstable when this bug happens.

It's plaguing IX as well..
But for what I've noticed, you can resize the canvas to the top and to the left without a trouble. Resizing to the bottom or right however will create this unpaintable area. At least that's how it has worked for me. That resize->save->close->reopen trick works for me too.
And as this seems to be my first post here on CGSociety, I'll just say hi to everyone: Hi everyone!
cheers,
JJ
..sorry if I'm digging up old/buried topics.. just that I was searching for a cure for this but since it's still in IX.5, thought I'd just share my 5 cents.
