I don't about the support service of maxon when you actually have their products, but i am really interested in becoming part of the community of owners of this seemingly great program and maxon doesn't really impresses me as of now :/

I already sent 4 different emails since the beginning of the week to very different people to try to get some informations (my country's reseller, an american reseller for education, maxon sales at .net and maxon sales at .de...) and now what? nothing... still not an answer to my questions (well beside a mail telling me the one to .net is delayed! d'oh).

I am sorry, but when you have some potential customer asking about your product, it seemed to me that 24 hours is a "normal" time frame for a reply. And i know they can have a problem or something sometime, but when all the emails you send are unanswered... sheesh we are talking about software worth in the 1000...or maybe my emails don't sound serious!? i hope not.

Anyway, sorry for the rant guys, but they are driving me crazy :)
This looks like a great cummunity for a great product, so i am back to checking my mailbox :P

If you can use the telephone instead of an email i think it remains the best way to contact somebody. Contact your local reseller, I think you will have all your questions answered ;)

It blows me away that people will get so vexed trying to accomplish something by e-mail over a period of weeks or months when in most cases the problem could be solved with a 2-minute phone call.

than maxon should not give contact email on their web site. why the hell they have an email like sales@blabla? they dont answer...

Well, the problem is that i actually also try to phone the local dealer trying to get infos to know if i am or am not eligible for an education license and about competitive upgrade.
This is tricky since it changes from country to country from what i can tell and i wanted to be sure that i would end up with what i want (it also involves question about upgrading the program later). but his answer was like: well i can sell you the product then you will need to contact maxon and prove you can really use that education license... ok well but he didn't really had the answers i was looking for :/
That's why i ended up writing emails at maxon sales addresses since i guess they are THE one that should know these for sure... and i am still waiting for some answers bah :(

Here's what I'd do: call the rep. back and confirm that you can buy the educational version. Ask him or her what you need to provide to Maxon in order to qualify for the license. Get his or her name. Assuming you qualify, buy the program and put all of the above information plus the requisite proof of educational status in a letter--a paper letter--and mail it to Maxon by certified post. That should cover your ass in case there's any dispute.

Sorry you've been running into problems getting the answers you want. You're right to ask though, because our educational programs do differ by region. Unfortunately I can only comment on the US, Can and Latin America.

Here in the US, we make every effort to respond to inquiries within a day (though we were having mailserver issues yesterday). Also be aware that all of the maxon offices use the same email server, and info@maxon.net and info@maxon.de both go to our German headquarters. To mail the U.S., customers have to use info-usa@maxon.net.

What country are you from? Perhaps I can hustle up some answers for you. It may be another day or so though, as most of our friends in Europe are on their way home.

Thank you for your answers.

I am from Switzerland, and maybe you can at least reply to my question on competitive upgrade:
I wanted to know what is the policy on competitive soft versions here: do you need to own the last version, any version or does the version changes from soft to soft?
(i gave the example that i possess truespace 2 in a thread below, not much chance it would be ok for it, but you never know...)

my input first of all there is not just one person sending emails......emails probly have to be filtered read then responded to in the order recieved......i was using pixels 3d and CALLED maxons tech support and talked about what i liked about pixels and asked what would make me switch he told me a bunch of stuff on the phone and then when release 8 came out....(working at a different studio) I CALLED and mentioned i had the demo and need to know if the studio i was at should switch...actually not switch i am the 3d guy so just buy version 8......well the guy sent me to this website and here i am.......well honestly if not getting the answer to your question right away is your reason for not choosing a program package then you criteria is very low....

Well, i didn't want to sound like i would buy another package just because i didn't get some answers "right away"!
To quote myself: "great cummunity for a great product..."
I even excused myself for the rant :P

Anyway, i now received a reply for my last email! (so the previous ones are still unanswered but well i am informed and happy now :) )

last week i emailed maxon and they emailed me back in 4 days, but gave me the wrong answer saying that C4D 8 cannot be upgraded to commercial version... so I called and a lady there told me sure you can! it's $498 to upgrade from XL 8 educational version.. they can't get their facts straight..

i sorry this is in defensible......not replying to emails....HOWEVER in this case it seems maxons email server was down/having probs....so i think you really need to give them the benefit of the doubt.......i do however believe if youre planning on buying any software in a commercial marketplace part of that decision should be made on product support....ask any IT manager how he/she feels about having good support or poor support and whether it affects his purchasing decision.:surprised

Why it's impossible to find anything about Student version on the Maxon website? I'm waiting for this version since R8 release date!
