I saw this last year, I have a friend who's a huge nerd for the youkai myths (http://obakemono.com/) and she's got some questionably-translated import DVD. The film's a lot of fun, kind of goofy in a low-rent monsters-in-rubber-suits way even though they did obviously have a decent budget for effects.

this appears (going by this trailer*) to be another unfortunate example of a potentially excellent premise that is left largely unexplored and underutilized, being left to whither on the vine, as it were, and is employed primarily as an excuse to create 'cool' FX shots. For the eight to 16 year old audience, basically. Is anyone interested in making films for adults these days? I know it is a big challenge, and one that studios generally just don't care about, but isn't it possible to make a film that appeals to both the eight to eighty year old, as well as many of those in between? Some might argue that Pixar has some success in this, but how about some other examples?

*Which brings me to another gripe: why are almost all trailers the same? Has someone cornered the market on creating them? Even many intelligent, innovative flicks seem to have the same cookie cutter trailers, why is that?
