Yeah you can model the hairs with flat surfaces, and then mapped them with an opacity map (for the hairs) and diffuse of course. This works pretty well for short hair or mid-long.

jadedchron: if you not going to say anything helpful then just shutup and move onto the next thread :annoyed: the guy just wants some help.

robo_obi: There a a couple of ways that you can go about doing hair. If your concern is money then you can use a free hair plugin from Peter Watje found here: >hair< (http://www.max3dstuff.com/)
If you want to go with the opacity maps on planes then >this< (http://www.menithings.com/How/Tilt/Hair/Tilt_Hair_01.html) link should probably help you. Its done in lightwave but its still applicable to max. anyhoo hope this helps

Thanks for the opinion Eel:rolleyes: Alot of people on this board don't take 5 seconds and research their question before asking it. Google.com is very helpful, and so is the max help file.

sorry if I misinterpeted what you were saying. I just really hate the whole elitist attitude thats been sweeping over the cg community... I interpretted what you were saying as reflecting that attitude.

I agree with you. The purpose of this site (in my mind ) is to help each other and enjoy 3D. Going through goggle isn't going to tell you which tuts are good, but someone here may know of one that really helped them. So I have no problem with someone asking a question.

a noteworthy addition to this topic is that you can take the mesh based concept (making the meshes a little smaller then the example), and apply a cloth modifier to them to make them animate correctly... then you simply set your "person" up on a Character Studio rig, animate him, then the final step is to make the whole thing into a cloth.... I have gotten some pretty good results from it.

Hair, of course is a very light weight cloth, if you think about it... but dont think too long, things might make sense... ;)

nah, i'd be the last person on earth to be sitting in an elitist attitude way. there a lot of people that don't research their question or atleast try a few times before they ask. i'll spend like a week or two or even months trying to figure something out before i ask. it just gets annoying sometimes seeing something that can be easily found if they'd looked for a second. if you guys don't mind that then i won't peep a word next time.

also i have no problem with people asking questions obviously.. it's just as i stated above.. very redundant when something can be researched a little. don't get those and newbie questions mixed up. anyhoo

Sorry to post this in the MAX forum but you can download Softimage for free. It includes shave and hair cut.
