Hi,

Just a quick question. Ive been getting into a bit of rigging lately and something struck me that doesn't quite add up...

When using a single HI solver for an arm for example, wouldn't it be simpler to just wire the solvers swivel angle value straight to say the hand control rather than create another object for it to point to?

The only reason I say this is because the object would have 3 axis of movement and therefore take longer to animate than just one value up or down....

I guess you could lock two of the axis and even link the remaining axis to a controller on the hand, which in turn would give you the same result but with one more controller for convenience sake....have I just answered my own question.

Either way, am I apparently missing a quality about the swivel controller object from what I have just asked?

Thanks for any guidance with this.

Using the angle value and using an object don't give the same result.

Using the angle, the solver will decide what direction the knee/elbow points depending on how the bones are animating.

Using an object, the knee/elbow is always being pointed to that object by the solver.

Generally, using an object gives more stable control to the animator, because the solver isn't trying to decide what it should be doing with the knee.

You can however use an object, link it to another object that is only rotated on 1-axis, then hide the swivel-object. Now you are back to only have to deal with 1 axis.

Personally, I way prefer to have the object for the knee/elbow there when animating, but I know some animators prefer not to have it.

So it seems I was missing something then.

Thanks very much for putting me straight on that kees. Youve probably saved me a good amount of time :applause:
