Title: Victory Gal_Sunken Corsair
Name: Glen Angus
Country: United States
Software: Photoshop
Here is another piece in this series.
Addition to initial entry- I made some changes based on some of the great feedback that I have already recieved on this piece from this forum_DEC 02 at 10pm
I'll attach a step by step process of this as early as I can in the thread.
I purposefully chose a more difficult and uncomfortable view and pose. But still graceful in a way that I could better capture this peaceful moment of lifelessness in nature.
I didn't want the entire series to be made up of easy pin up or conventional portrait like poses. I wanted to take this one to a different place and feel. There are far too many intricate and
amazingly detailed paintings of gorgious women out there.I wanted to make this one special by making more than just a painting of a pretty girl, and
hopefully evoke some emotion from the viewer- other than just an apreciation of a pretty girl.
Done entirely in PS.
Hope you like.
Respectfully,
Gangus

It's a really thoughtful and eerily beautiful addition to your amazing series. I love the depth of the painting and your research into the details.
Just fantastic...

Geez...you're work has been the most innovative artwork I've seen in a long time. It makes me want to stop all this mulitmedia crap and go back to what got me into art in the first place...drawing and painting.

This work goes beyond pretty girls and unnecessary detail.
It has mood and feeling.

Dang dude, I see alot of "pretty girl" renders and illustrations on this forum, and I will admit to having downloaded alot of them. I don't think you have anything to worry about in regards to your work being relegated to shamelessly showing off the female figure. I said this in a post on one of the other images in this series, and I'll say it again here. Every one of your images so far has gone a long way to capture and represent the courage and sacrifice of the men who flew, fought, and lived or died in the greatest air battle in history.
I also like the treatment you have given the eyes in the last few in the series, blurring the lines as to whether these ladies be angel or demon. As always emotionally stunning, and conceptually brilliant.
P.S. If Derrick Hammond still works there tell him Lee from AID says hi

Excellent work! Very serine appearing.
crit: The girl's right leg looks too thick, almost log like. One other minor thing that looks odd is the top string on the girl's bikini bottom doesn't seem right. It doesn't conform to the girl's body and or it isn't being pulled on anything (that I can see) that would cause it to be that high up on the girl's torso.

I think you captured the perfect mood for this painting. The avatar of the plane is trapped in the deep ocean where the plane went down. A whole story can be realized with this one picture.

Thanks for all of the comments and crits!
I hope everyone has had a chance to click on the thumbnails to see the iterative process shots
I added at the bottom of page one of this thread.
CyborgJA: Thanks for the 5 stars- I know it's bad for me to care about something like votes or awards- but they do help in getting more people to want to come and experience the work, message and atmospheres that I am trying to get accross. Cheers! :)
FRENZIEDmind: Thanks for the crit- as always I am open to everyones opinions- I have looked this over again and agree with you. I will definately go back in and adress these sections. Thats what this forum should be about right? Very much apreciated. In a day or so I should hopefully have had the time to make some revisions and update the image in this thread and in my portfolio.
Dra(hen: Thanks man- This type of apreciation of my work keeps me working free for this forum, and for myself. It is just grerat getting such feedback from you guys while I am trying to personally grow as an artist. I had been working only for hire for so long (13+years) in this industry that I never really had the opportunity to do these kinds of projects. thanks!!
It is also nice to know that you get the feeling behind this series as it was intended- to honor all of the souls who flew and fought so viligantly during that time. I am sure it was never anywhere near as glorious as the movies made it out to be- and I am sure those young pilots really would have warmed to the thought of a guardian angel flying along side them at times- no matter what banner they flew under.
harnpers: Nice to have such an admirer from my home town harnpers! ditto the sentiments I left just above :)
NathanLB: Thanks dude- I really wanted to challenge myself on these angles and proportions even at the risk of getting some things wrong. I don't want to always play it safe- I feel I would stagnate if I do. Often it is so tempting to go with what is comfortable- and I feel personally our work can't grow if we don't take risks. Glad you like!
stooch:Thanks! it really is all about finish on an atmospheric environment like this.
EhsanD:AHHHH! Don't do it my friend you are my most contstant and loyal supporter, besides with some of your recent posts you look like you may eclypse me sometime very soon.
Thanks again everyone. I apreciate the bandwidth that this series is getting. Please encourage your friends to come and check out my Victory Gals at CGtalk.

Sorry I never got a chance to reply to the intial posts from the first page.
Wysiwyg: Wow that is a huge compliment thank you- I try to stay innovative. I hope you can at least get back to some drawing and painting on the side. I'd be happy to lend a helping hand if you need any advice, tips, tricks or direction.
ketan:Thanks dude, like I mentioned above this post to CyborgJA- the 5 stars and awards are great to getting more people to come and look at my work. very much apreciated!
lukx: Thanks dude, certainly no God though- there are guys out there that can kick my ass in PS I'm sure. maybe if I could just be considered a lesser deity of PS would be more than enough fopr me ;) -sorry for the D&D reference, he he.
If you must know, and only because you (one of my bestest supporters) have asked- I am 36 years old. In my feeling it's not the age that counts- it's more the time in ones life that you gain the belief and confidence in your work to start really producing better work. I wish I would have had the confidence when In myself when I just got out of high school to really commit to my work- I think I would be much farther along in my style, and career if I had.
It wasn't until after blowing a few years of University and graduating from Graphic Design college that I started to think I could make a living as an artist.
elnady: I am looking into the legs from other comments- the reason they seem longer though is I want to suggest a warping from her perspective and the water, but when I rework the revisions on this piece I will happily try your suggestions.
Thanks again
Gangus

Hey Gangus. Nice to see other post from the Victory Gal series. I find it amazing the way you draw them and you manage the time for your daily job and also to work on these drawings. I admire that ;) Also, the fact that you take some time to answer to all of us is admirable.
It is also nice to know that you get the feeling behind this series as it was intended- to honor all of the souls who flew and fought so vigilantly during that time. I am sure it was never anywhere near as glorious as the movies made it out to be- and I am sure those young pilots really would have warmed to the thought of a guardian angel flying along side them at times- no matter what banner they flew under.
You are, of course, right. Hope and awareness of our own end separate us from the animals. War never changes, only the weapons of war do change... It is nice of you that wanted to change the atmosphere of your drawings a little bit - you are of course right: some of us will do appreciate more the beautiful girls instead of the overall idea, the feelings you wanted to transmit through the paint. I am just curious when you will run out of inspiration? LoL. Anyway, 5* from me. If it is something I do not like about this drawing, is the feeling that you finished in a hurry - my opinion is that you should have spent a little more time on it. Okay, I have said enough, I do not want to race with your own post. (laughing). Until your next Victory gal, take care ;)
