You can do this with filming the invisible subject against a blue/greenscreen, keying it, then using it as a displacement map on your plate footage, resulting in an effect similar to 'active camoflage' in the video game 'Halo'. For more complicated invisibilty, you'll need a combination of 2d compositing in After Effects and 3d modeller (the latex mask in 'Hollow Man' would be an example of this).

thanks are there any good tutorials that you know of for some of the more complicated effects? i'm doing quite a bit and have a good understanding of things such as predator effect, just need a good source for more info
