hi, this is my first post here... umm .. if anyone can help it will be extremely appreciated.
my problem is that i've got a character that i want to have rise out of water and then droplets of water will run off him.
i'm working with the idea that he rises through a particle cloud, the particles stick to him on the way through and then run off him due to a gravity spacewarp. Problem is getting the particles to stick to him on the way through.
Any suggestions will be helpful. :)

Surprised no one has tried to help on this one.. I can't offer a sure fire solution but perhaps some help. Is it possible for the water droplets running down the character to be acheived by using the character as the object generating particles with Parray/Pcloud and if neccessary having more than one particle system attached to him. If you play with the timings I would have thought it's possible to make it look like they were produced by coming up through the spray. :)

After seeing your post I decided to try my hand at this problem of yours , and I got good results . The only bad thing is that it can't use a particle cloud other than that it does exactly what you want it to .first you need to make a super spray particle system aimed at the character. Next you need to make a u-deflector space warp . Now select your u-deflector and go to the modify tab and adjust the amount of bounce to 0.05 and then in the same panel click on the "get object" button and click on your character in the view port. Then bind the u-deflector space warp to the particle system . Now create a gravity space warp and adjust the settings to your liking , I used a strength of 5.0 . next bind the gravity space warp to your particle system and your good to go .
Now if you absolutely need to use a p-cloud here is a trick around this sense you can't bind a deflector or gravity space warp to a p-cloud . First make a box make it a size that would be as far as you particles will fly. Now in the creation tab make sure to add a good bit of segments on your box , if you don't your particles will fly out of the box. Next convert your box to an editable mesh . Now go to the modify panel and select the element sub-object , now click on the box , now in the modify panel (with the box still selected ) click on the button that says "flip" . Now create a u-deflector space warp with a low amount of bounce . Now in the u-deflectors modify panel click the "pick object" button and in the view port click on the box . Next create a super spray particle system inside of the box , give the super spray system a good bit of spread so the whole box fill will up evenly like a p-cloud would . Now make the emit start a negative number so the box will be filled up by the time you character emerges from the water note that this will affect the particle life so you may want to adjust that to a longer time. Now bind the deflector to the particle system . Next create a new deflector and adjust the settings like the first method above . Finally in the modify panel of the u-deflector click the "pick object" button and choose the character that you made and that's it.
You could do this with a p-array but it looks just like it would if you just used a gravity space warp . Now the way to make the particles is another post :)
I tried to make this easy to understand if you need the file that I made as a reference I could send it to you over icq my icq# is 137901139 . I hope this was helpful :)
