View Full Version : still: Glass Penguins
Potato77 02-13-2003, 12:30 AM here is something i've been working on...not perfect cause of no DOF cause it takes too long to render. anyone know of a good post DOF plug-in beside lenscare? sorry for the crap quality...20k is not enough...what ever happened to 50000? who host images for free? where do babies come from?

Depening on the program you use(i use Max) you can render out as a .rla and include the zdepth and then add depth of field in after effects

Maybe you should make 'em more like them Swarovski christals :)
It would probably help to put them on a different background, look at them from a pov closer to the ground or put some caustics and some sharper lighting in to bring out their form more, but otherwise they look great, what is it with all the penguins that have been turning up on the boards recently?

I agree with putting them on a different background. It's are pretty hard to see any details right now. But from what i can see it's looks really good.
But hey, they're penguins and penguins rock :buttrock:

whats a swarovski crystal?
tpe- i do have caustics going...and the lighting is Hdri so im not sure how to make it sharper, and i had no idea people were making penguins...the reason im making them is because i have a friend who loves them and im making them for her:)
thanks for the replies
Hey yes sorry i see that now, at work my moniter is a little darker so they looked like part of the base pattern, does it make any difference if you use a larger (size wise) light so as they are not so much sharper but affect a greater area? i think it needs some way to seperate them from the background. Is your refraction index on 1.44? and what is it like if you raise it with more of a back light? as although Dof will help separate them it would still be nice to have more in the focused areas. Whatever, its a great picture and i love the penguins, they rock :)

its definately a penguin and we like them anyhow, but the model misses a lot of detail I've noticed. The blue one is more clear than the glass version, and I like it for that reason more. I guess you should try to add some more detail if your up to it, but I see you choose not to for the simple reason : rendering.
Understandement, and enjoy max

looks pretty nice.
my forums allow 15MB file uploads if you want to post a higher quality version. The red one really got killed by the compression.
