Sorry for the cross-post. I'm asking a MOD to help out. Didn't know there was a hardware forum.

Hardware For Maya: Latest G5 Setup help please
Can someone help me with my setup for Maya 8 Complete? I am running a G5 with 5.5gigs of PC-4200 DDR2 ram. Below are the specs and what I plan to upgrade too to run Maya.

Does this sound like a workable solution? I need to get it going as fast as it can for around this budget.

Yeah. but I doubt the extra RAM will help much and I wasn't aware of an aftermarket 7800 card for the G5. They only made the 7800gt for the pci-express dual-core G5s that were out just before the mac pro. The best graphics card for you to get for the dual processor G5s with pci-x/agp is the kit for the nvidia 6800 ultra DDL mac version or the ati radeon x800 mac version. The x800 is easier to find, cheaper, and a bit faster, and has better drivers under OSX.

That's the one I have, maX. The final Dual-Core G5. The 7800GT will work in my system.

I am also getting the new ATi Radeon X1900 G5 Edition instead. And I think I will skip the ram for now and go for the 10k RPM internal.
