View Full Version : Arlekins first attempt on futuristic city design
Arlekin 11-29-2006, 07:25 PM Hi
So i started a new project i decided to give a try to the futuristic city design. Ofcourse the design will be my own but i want it to be something you would expect...so it is going to be more of a painting exercise than a real artpiece (if im lucky i manage to turn it into one)

So far i have discovered that in making things look enormous its a great help if u integrate some regodnizable objects (something you would expect to be about as big as yourself or any size to give you a hint of scale) into those supertructers.
Its like i know these things in traditonal painting but here i have to discover them all over again....
if anyone has any advice even now when this thing is just scetch then ill be glad to hear it because the sooner i root out my flaws the better.

hey - i'd take a look at this sparth tutorial, to get an idea of how to go about a complex cityscape:

i think it's especially important to block shapes at the outset - get a light source, and define values. maybe draw some perspective lines - are you using one/two/three point? think about adding a distinctive architectural feature to give it some character, too (so i wouldn't worry about details such as windows quite yet...)

so another change in the course...

thank you audit for the link :)
now i have next question, how many of you use 3d blocking for insane perspective shots and how many of u can do it from scratch...easy? (just curious). J ust discovered that i have learned how to construct a human body from scratch but archtectural views lack practice.... since in school we draw models and portraits mostly expet few rare occasions when we have done some interiors.
