View Full Version : Help with UV mapping a polygon
Cieprus 02-12-2003, 08:47 PM Hi, I have a problem.
Im using Maya 4.0.
I have an ammo box with 3 rockets leaning against it. All the same polygon.
Im stuck on how to UV map this... Do I need to use UV sets? Or do I need to have them seperate polygons? 1 ammo box 3 rockets total of 4 polygons.
It is probally something simple that im just making really complicated.
Well thanks for simplifying this for me!

Thanks for you help.
So, what I think is. If they are seperate polygons they will have seperate UV maps?
Correct? Or am I an idiot and your laughing at me ;)
Thanks!

Hy Cieprus,
What you can do is create UVs to map to each 'virtual' object. You don't have to separate them out to separate polygon objects.
What you want to do is select the faces that make up a rocket, project a texture onto it (cylindrical, for example - make sure that you don't have 'Create New UV Set' checked) then go into the UV texture editor, click on one of the UV points of that rocket, select->select shell and move it away. You can do this for each rocket and the ammo box and then scale/arrange them where you like.
The other option is to cut the UVs appart by selecting the edges of your existing UV and use Polygons->Cut UVs.
Hope that helps.
