Is anyone in the San Diego / Orange County / LA / Southern California area proficient with both SolidWorks and modo? We could really use your help guiding some of our san diego modo user group members making the mental leap into modo and adding it to their SolidWorks workflow.

Please send me an email if you might be able to help. Even if you are not in the area, maybe we could work out a web conference / teleconference. We will be holding a workshop on modo for CAD/SolidWorks users in the next few weeks and we can use all the help we can get!

Anyone else in the area interested in participating in this workshop, please send me an email too.

Thanks,
-Jeff (jeffrutan at mac dot com)

Excerpt from notes on our modo meeting last night:

Glen Keith did a great job presenting his robot head project to our san diego modo user group last night (November 27, 2006). Especially considering that he had only been using modo for a few DAYS and had never used a polygonal / subdivision surface modeler before! Glen has been an industrial product designer for many years using mostly SolidWorks recently.

SolidWorks is a very different way of modeling and a BIG mental shift to move into sub-d. However, he is doing more organic shapes for work now and is looking for an easier tool for generating those shapes. It looks like modo will be a great choice for that! I know it is for me!

Several in our group (at least 5 of the most faithful members) are industrial product designers with CAD backgrounds. We are a Special Interest Group (SIG) of SDMUG, but it looks like maybe we need a SIG within our SIG for those learning modo coming from CAD/SolidWorks.

Some of us will have a hands-on workshop for that some time in the next few weeks before our next general modo meeting (January 22, 2007). If that workshop is really successful, we may try to do it regularly or work some of that into our general meetings. I hope any of you who are really interested in CAD to modo will join this workshop. More news on that workshop will be coming soon.
