View Full Version : Rendering of anamorphic, fish eye images in Maya

Greetings to all

I would like to know what strategies exist with Maya if I want to do the following: Render an image as if seen through a 180 degree fish-eye lens, or as reflected by a hemispherical mirror.

I imagine it implies programming a special renderer function where the rays are thrown radially from a half-sphere, but my inexperience in the domain restricts me from knowing further. I am a programmer with *very* little skill in modelling.

I imagine this would be done in MEL? Has it been done before? Is it, perchance, already implemented in MAya?

Thanks!

there's a mental ray lens shader that does this. try this one:

http://www.pixero.com/downloads_mr.html

that worked for me. there's another here:

http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/plugins/rendering/mental_ray/MR-Shader-Library-Add-Output-shader-3759.html

you have to install the mental ray shader so make sure you check out the read me.

Hey thanks a lot

I see you are in Montreal. Where do you work? What's your expertise?
