View Full Version : AE in Command line
RavenEye 11-28-2006, 06:19 AM Hey, I'm wondering if you could run a job through the command line. I would think it would be a lot faster of a render and I'm aware that several render ques allow After Effects to render on multi machines. So, I'm wondering how one person goes about it. I'm running DOS but would like to learn the UNIX way also.

Nope. The watch folder rendering must be done using the standalone Render version with the Windows GUI. Except for language switches, AE does not recognize any command line options.

I use aerender.exe to render a project without the GUI.
Located in \Adobe After Effects 7.0\Support Files
You can render what's on the render queue or selec a comp directly.
Example:
To render just Comp 1 to a specified file:
aerender -project c:\projects\proj1.aep -comp "Comp 1"
-output c:\output\proj1\proj1.avi
To render everything in the render queue as is in the project file:
aerender -project c:\projects\proj1.aep
Works great for me. Its a lot safer for big projects (no memory problems), but the speed I think its the same.
Cheers.

Yupp. Completely forgot about it, 'cos I never use it. Strange how such threads pop up again 2 months later. ;O)

Yup, it is funny that 2 months later this post pops back up. Forgot all about it. But that command line execute is nice to know. Rendering AE on the renderfarm now but at that time it wasn't on the render farm. Thanks for the feedback.
