View Full Version : Animation Preview
BigAl3D 11-27-2006, 08:51 PM I am able to play rough animations in the main window on my G5 Dual 1.8 with an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256 MB card. At work, I have a slightly faster system Dual 2.0 with an ATI X800XT card, but it will not even try to play my animation.
This animation is done with a couple of deformers, and yes, the on/off switch is on. I can see the deformations on a frame-by-frame basis, just not any motion. I'm guessing there is a setting in my prefs that I need to adjust.
Any tips? Thanks.

So when you hit play, nothing happens at all?

That's right. I hear the music I'm using for timing, but it won't play. I can understand if it stuttered and got choked somehow, but it's like there's a setting that turns it off. Makes it tough to see how the timing is going, ya know?
Thanks for the reply. Also, FYI... Cinema version 9.602.

okay so you've listed how the graphics cars are, what about CPU and ram? Most poeople don't realize that typically the play back hit isn't the GPU, but the calculations before the drawing (IK expressions scene calculation etc)
Would help to know how those compare before speculating what the problem is.

As I mentioned before:
System that works: Dual G5 1.8/2 GB RAM, 256 MB VRAM, .c4d file on ext. FW 800 drive
System that wont: Dual G5 2.0/6 GB RAM, 256 MB VRAM, .c4d file on ext. FW 800 drive
Both Systems: Mac OS 10.4.8
Thanks.

Alex,
Are the Cinema display settings the same... Open GL vs software render? Maybe one is set to software. Hardware might be providing a boost during the preview render...

Everything seems the same, but I'll compare them in a couple of hours. I think it may be my file is getting too big. My previews barely played at home. If I took one of my animated elements and pasted it into a blank document, it played no problem.
Thanks for the help.
