Title: Out of Time and Place
Name: Graham Purvis
Country: United Kingdom
Software: 3ds max, Painter, Photoshop, Poser, Vue

The title of the piece is Out of Time and Place. With this piece I'm trying to get a mix of embarrassment upon the Knights part and a sense of curiosity and, to an extent, surprise on the part of the seven foot troopers at the sudden appearance of a short dude in archaic armour.

The figures were assembled in Poser (after resizing the textures from 4000x4000 to 700x700 and saving heaps of memory). The figures are posed first to keep Posers display responsive then the outfits are applied, I modelled and textured the coif (the chain mail hood of the knight) in 3DS Max mainly because I couldn't find one that was appropriate for the figure.

The hold (of a drop ship that I've designed) that they are standing in was modelled in 3DS Max and the whole lot was brought together in Vue 5 Infinite. Inside Vue the scene was set up (lighting et al) and rendered out at 300DPI.

I took it in to Photoshop and Painter to alter the intensity of the colour (curves, layer overlay, etc...), in Painter the blend and FX tools are used extensively.

If anyone has anything that could improve things or just general comments then please feel free.

Don't forget to give credit to the original modeler if you are using other peoples stuff. SanctumArt posts here as well and you don't want people thinking your'e stealing credit as opposed to just using something in your render made by someone else.

For more realism, I would aply the bump map to the soldiers. You will have to do it manualy (whether through poser or Vue. Though it's easier to set it up in poser.). At least with the leather portions Would love to see alittle bit more of the ship as well. Otherwise, quite humorous!

Sorry, a little slip, I've been rather busy and have been in and out all day -here's all the the guys and their wonderful stuff - Sanctum Art - the really, really good VAP Grim armour (and their Pitbull vehicle is cracking), Valandar and HMG Designs for the Knight Errant armour and, of course Daz3D for the David and Michael figures and the Michael Hi res texture.
