View Full Version : Can MAXScript do this?

Okay, I've gotten to the point now where I feel moderately comfortable with MAXScript, have written a few small scripts on my own, and am looking to try an idea out. I honestly don't know if this is within MAXScripts capabilities, or if I want to start looking at the SDK for this one.

Basically, I would like to be able to create a custom deformation lattice. Something not restricted to the geometric shapes that the FFD modifiers provide. Ideally, I would like to be able to create a spline cage (one that follows the basic contour of a modelled object), and convert it to a deformation lattice to be used for morphing/animation purposes.

I've had this idea for a while now, but as I said, I don't know if MAXScript is the solution for this or not. Any ideas anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

It is possible to do this using MAXScript.
But how is this different from using the SkinWrap modifier?

I'm very glad you asked that question! The answer is.. it's not! I didn't know about the SkinWrap modifier. Of course, I started learning Max with R3, and the latest version I've used extensively is R6. So... time to upgrade, I think
