View Full Version : rendring ram max
Potato77 02-12-2003, 04:50 AM is there any way to tell 3dsmax to use more memory to render? sometimes my computer uses 256k then it will only use 100k then ,like now, its only useing 16k to render :O why!!! im not running anything else. just a mp3 player that only takes 10k my buddy has the same setup but his runs at 400 something!!! my renders are taking way too long. so if someone has any ideas?

now thats something i need to know too !
but i think i read somewhere that MAX's built in memory usage display is displaying incorrect values most of the time
sometimes it uses very few RAM sometimes very much
but if you dont only look in MAX but check your RAM usage in windows or any other proggie when rendering it should show you the "real" values...
even though id like to know too and read this i never actually checked mhhh
ill do that now

mhh
MAX says it uses 350MB phys RAM
and win2k says MAX uses 150MB of RAM
maybe it doesnt need more ?
no clue
but obivously im not using 500mb virtual memory atmo as MAX tells me
maybe that are the max values or whatever max will need in this render...
seems faulty display

the ram stuff in max is by no means a representation of whats is actually happenening with the ram usage in your computer.
use taskmanager.
and max will use the ram it has to use. not more not less(allthough that can be questioned).
cheers

errr.. I think your not understanding what I am saying here... if you scene does not require all of your memory max will not use all your memory..

ok.....then why do people have computers with 2 gigs of ram if it only uses up to 400 or so

because they make scenes that use alot of memory(I have a couple of scenes that take up my 1 gig ram) and some multitask, so they are rendering+ working on something else at the same time(mostly only when they have dual processor setup though)
