Can someone please telll me how to paint or create a UV map of an dinosaur in BP 3? Is it fairly straight forward or still difficult?

I want to know if it is as easy in C4D as Modo?

Also can I download a trial version of the new Bodypaint to use with my C4D R9?

Thanks

As Easy as Modo? I dunno, it depends on how easy it really is in Modo.

Im Bodypaint you'd find you Edge Seams, run the relax UV command, and then it becomes a matter of Pinning points and relaxing (R10).

With R9, it'd be much harder. The Pavel Zoch (spelling?) did a great relax UV tutorial for R9 that you could apply to a dino, but it'd be easier in 10.

Download the Cinema 4D R10 Demo, it has Bodypaint built in. It will not work with your R9 as Saving is disabled (and Files saved in 10 wont work in 9 anyway). So you can run through the process in the R10 Demo, but you couldn't save the project or the textures.

I actually did a dinosaur not too long ago. I'm not very familiar with modo But as far as I know BodyPaints updated "relax" UV tools are similar to the interactive LCSM unwrapping in modo. Its very quick and easy to do just draw your seams and click a button. There are also other UV tools in BodyPaint which are pretty good. As for the painting it hasnt changed much for the new version. A great way to create dino skin is using Zbrush displacments to get all the wrinkles and details then paint in some scales in a bump map in bodyPaint. Or maybe get a photo texture of some lizard skin to add to it. Hope this answers your question...

~ shameless plug follows ~

If you're looking for even more UV tools and/or ever split your model in half and work in a Symmetry Object, you might want to chack out my Undertow plugin (http://skinprops.com/undertow.php). It has some nice additional tools to make life easier. Be sure to check out the online documentation (http://skinprops.com/undertow/index.htm) to get a better idea of what the tools do.

Well, I did my dinos the old fashoined way. One piece at a time. R10 does have the ability to use split areas and pinned points to make the job easier, then use the Relax tool.

No sense doing the way I did with the new tools in R10 it would probably be much easier.

Here's a link to a C4D Portal tut: http://www.c4dportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1017

Mike Batchelor always does superb, easy to follow tuts, and they're free. This is a whole character, but the BodyPaint tut will explain what you need.
