View Full Version : "Soft Selection" or "feather Selection" of points?

hey guys. Kind of a basic modelling question.

Back in 3DSMax there was somehting called Soft Selection. Basically, youd select one point, it would select 4 around it, and then 4 around those etc etc

But if you moved the point you selected, the others would follow, but not the same distance, theyd move maybe a fraction of the distance as the initial point.

Guess itd be the same as feather selecting..

Any ideas? thanks in advance.

There is something similar in Cinema 4D, but they've cunningly hidden and disguised it, calling it "Soft Selection" instead of "Soft Selection" that you have in every other application. The manual covers "Soft Selection" however just to be confusing they call it "Soft Selection" there instead of "Soft Selection".

What a novel approach. Shrewd. Cunning. C4D can be so cryptic at times. :D

Hello,

You will find the settings for soft selection in attributes window when you have any of the selection tool acttivated. If you can not see them click on the mode tab.

Hope this helps Regards Turbotoes.

P.S. The manual makes a good read and provides most answers if you can find where to look

Hmmm. I can't seem to find a manual with my R10.

Sorry, I know it was in bad taste but I couldn't help it.

Just right-click on soft selection, then you will find in the html help where soft selection is hidden.

Madskilzman: if you can, then download the documentation for rel 9 (all updates) from

http://www.maxon.net/pages/download/documentation_e.html

and treasure them. Modeling hasn't changed much, and these pdf's will be very handy indeed.
And keep asking questions when you need an answer.

Hey guys,

Who knew theyd call it soft selection in C4d, i thought that was a max only thing. I later found that was something added in 9, and i had never really needed it til now, so i never looked for it.

Thanks again! thats perfect.
