View Full Version : ... just a few questions
nerrazzi 02-11-2003, 07:07 PM Hi, I'm looking into purchasing a copy of Softimage 3D 4.0 and I was wondering if anyone can tell me if Softimage has everything you need to do realistic animation and lipsynch?
Also, I noticed on their website that there is a separate program, "Softimage cloth extreme" available. Do you need to purchase this software additionally to create realistic cloth simulations?
Softimage is just one of the higher-end programs I'm looking into, the other is Lightwave partially because of it's high-powered renderer. Thanks for your time...

SI|3D v4 is still extremely powerful for animation, power wise it has little or nothing to envy to other applications.
It's been used, and it's still used, over many other apps from a good deal of extremely high-end studios (with no custom coding over it as far as animation goes).
Cloth is to be purchased apart.

for indivadul I think XSI is a better choice!!the style of si3d is too old!no friendly interface either.
i agree..i was not to keen on facial animation in si4 but its vastly improved in xsi....and si4 does not have non linear animation..wich makes animation much eisier in xsi..bones setup is eisier to (as far as parenting is concerned)..also xsi comes with a great cloth simulator;)

well there is a reason if SI|3D got downpriced that much.
obviously the investment on 3D repaid itself so much and so long ago it's now possible to sell it at very low prices, this doesn't mean that the program isn't brillant (btw it HAS nla but not as userfriendly as XSI's ) or powerful.
ease of use and ergonomy wise 99% of the people find XSI easier obviously, it's especially easier to tap out high end results off XSI.
the original question was "is it powerful ?" and yes it is EXTREMELY powerful.
the features list and ergonomy obviously differ a lot from those of an application (XSI) that's the most recent effort on the market.
