hi everybody!

i am fairly new to c4d and am already totally psyched about the creative possibilities it gives me as an artist. now, i am looking for more information on ambient occlusion type styles - in case what i am talking about here is total crap - i would like to show you what i mean: - i work on this image and would like to develop the respective style ...

it is going to be printed (still)

can somebody point me into the right directions --- where to look for what (terminology) to make this look better. are there any tuts as to this style out there ????

thanx

Well if its GI you want, then you go into the render settings dialogue, and on the left side (you will need Advanced Rednerer) should be an option for GLobal illumination. Select that and then you will see a bunch of greyed out optiosn and one checkbox to activate GI, check that box. Set the GI to stochastic and you should get that exact look.

IF its Ambient Occlusion you want instead, doesn't select the GI option on the left, but the Ambient occlusion setting two steps below the GI setting. Again there will be greyed out values and a checkbox, check that and you should be goo to go.

For the exact look your showing there, you will need a sky object with a grey texture (80% or so)

my fault ! i could have been more precise :)
i know where the GI/AO settings ARE - but i do not know, how to use them creatively, other than simply applying them on my work. are there any tutorials out there - compositions in the style i put the link up to ???

always worth starting out with very low accuracy settings on your AO (~10%), you can always increase them for the render, but 100% accuracy takes longer, and doesn't look a lot better. On stochastic GI turn down the accuracy, and sample number. Also true for area shadows.

EDIT: Just done a quick test - changing the accuracy settings makes a big difference on AO, but not much difference on GI or Area shadows. Can anyone confirm/explain this?
