This mainly a question for small houses but feel free to add if you like.

So I have a small set up at work to try out a few things for animation. But I am hitting a snag atm with finding the cold hard truth to rendering out frames that are taking 2 minutes a frame. 2 x 30 gets to an hour a second, and the out putted bells and whistled image lacks any "real life" look still. I want to use Maxwell soooo bad but it's just to slow.

Any nice tips to share for work flow that can enable some type of simi photoreal with low to no raytracing? I cant think scanline can do it but I could be wrong
