View Full Version : birail tips?
Scott212 02-11-2003, 05:35 PM while modeling with nurbs, I often find it quite useful to use the birail 3+ tool. Rarely can I get it to operate though. If I ignore the middle profile on say, a car hood and do a birail 2, it works fine. When I try to use three profile curves, the birail computation fails. Does anyone have any tips that they've used to get this to work? And yes, all my curves are snapped.
Thanks
Scott

Are you trying to snap the middle curves to the cv's on the rail curves? I see this mistake alot. Cv's aren't actually on the curve, you need to snap to the edit points(EP) or do a curve snap.

I'm doing a curve snap
Could we see an image of your curves so we can see your layout? I could try to help you out!
Is't working? Cause I tryed it. Created the 2 rail curves and then created the 3 profile curves and snap them on the curves and it works fine!

here's a screenie:
Well Scott!
It looks ok! Are your curves all in the same direction? Look at the uv on your curves? That might be it? And make sure like we said to snap on curve! Try this if it's still not working send me your 5 curves for your hood and I'll fix them if you want?

wouldna been crv direction, it doesnt really care for directn.
you might find my railSnap script useful, it snaps profile end pnt to the railing crvs, and keeps them there, so you can edit the crvs freely whilst maintaining the required railing conditions - makes editing the resultant surfaces a pleasure. if you want to snap to the EPs, then just RMButton show them on rails after selecting the endPnt handles.
