View Full Version : The K (rolling animation) key
Eudaimic 02-11-2003, 05:03 PM Hey,
Do people normally use the k key for rolling back and forth in their animation?
I mean it's a cool feature, but my hand is constantly in the other part of the keyboard (qwer, ctrl, alt and s), so moving it to k is kinda annoying.
So my questions is: Has any of you guys remapped it? And to what? I don't wanna start remapping keys without knowing what kinda damage I'm causing to the backlot of the other keys.

I was very scared about re-mapping keys for ages, but then I thought, what the hell else am I using them for?

I agree, but I just dread the day where I press a key and nothing happens :)

well, capture the state of your hotkeys now by going into hotkey editor, list all .., save to file. they are all organised by menu function mostly anyway. just gota knwo what the name of the thing you are/were doing is.

You can't cause a big problem if you map keys or remap them. What I usually do is figure out a key that isn't being used, or one I never use anyway, then map that one to a function.
As for using the k key. I'ts quicker for me to move the mouse down to the time slider and just left click and drag. I usually have my hand on the mouse and like you said, the other is always somewhere else. It is a cool feature, but I never use it.

I use the k key :) but I guess it's mostly near the end of the animation process and when I'm really just tweaking the curves in the graph editor. I don't really find it a nusance to reach over with my left hand to hold the k button once in a while though.
However there is a script out there, that let's you map multiple functions to the same key and switch back and forth via a little hotbox type interface. I can't remember the name though. Maybe someone here does.
