Aaron, the 3d scene category has less to do with story and more on the technical side of things. You can find this in the challenge's FAQ:
"Q: What's the difference between 'Illustration' and '3D Scene'?
A: Illustrations are all we previously had in the challenges. 2D / 3D work, post-processing, go and make some final artwork. For the 3D Scene, we're after a really well-done model (of an environment or an object), which you'll show us with a short animation (eg. a turntable or flythrough)."
I hope this helps and good luck with the challenge. :)

Jedi-Juice,Thanks for stoppin by man! Should have work up real soon!
My concerns with busting out a bad ass scene in 3D are the least of my worries... not just that it will be simple, but extraordinarily more sipmle once I have a solid vision of what I want to create.
Besides they only told you that business about your model because you couldn't handle the true challenge :D
Heres what I found the FAQs to truly say:
I'm bit confused here. Less story based? EON instructions clearly say say: "Story is the primary component that will be awarded highest weighting in all judging. The emotive impact and implication of “story behind the image” is the aspect that is most important. Your work must capture the imagination of the viewer and draw them in without relying on any prior knowledge of the story."
Niten: If you can capture "story" in a model, then you'll undoubtedly pull ahead of others who can't. It's just that we don't expect story to play as large a part in the modeling category as the other categories.

Sorry I haven't given any concepts yet, I've been busy with a couple ideas but nothing award winning yet...
