Title: Last Ride of The Cyborg Elves
Name: Ruben Drakkar
Country: Panama
Software: 3ds max

Made with 3ds max, Zbrush, Photoshop, Mental Ray, Combustion.I inspire myself on an idea of having cyborg elves. In the story they kill each other because of a civil war. This is part of a scene that involves this last cyborg elf riding his horse to a wasteland land prodcued by the battle above mentioned. Thanks to GOD, Family and Friends for the support. I hope you like this artwork.

i think the overall picture is great. as i told you ,the textures rock aswell as the realism of the components- the only CC i'd give would be regarding the horse. you nailed its anatomy , but it looks a bit stiff. perhaps a little movement on the neck or legs. OH and almost forgot, horses run with only 1 leg on the ground.......from what ive heard.:D jaja

the horse is 100% perfect but the rider needs some facial work i think.. his skin is ALLMOST too pure although I'm sure that pure is the intention.. the armor on the horse and rider is especially good.. I'de like to see your concepts for this if at all possible... Hope to see more good work from you coming up soon. btw the background is also extremely good.

Excelent JOB!!. I think the same of the others replyies the only problems are the rider face, because it look a bit flat if you compare whit the rest of the composition.

Ruben congrats!! i think this is a great job and you must be proud of it.

PD: my english is too bad..ja,jaa

Felicitaciones hermano, de verdad un excelente trabajo. Espero que sigas produciendo imagenes de esta calidad y que muy pronto encuentres un mercado para todo tu talento. Mucha suerte amigo.

Hi Ruben..thanks for your message!
your work looks nice - ive seen it since your wips..sorry for my horrible english :) so to your image - overall looks good - good composition and elements, but i think that are few things which can be improved - trees looks too small against the "pikes".. i dont know why,but I´m missing some blue flashes or sparks in the neck of the horse - its just my opinion, but i think that it can give some new nice detail...missing horse footprints in the ground or something what will give " look of war" in the ground...small watter surfaces on the ground should look good too - nice reflections of the env and so on...some illuminating liquid getting from dead bodies..a crow towing some cable from dead body...i think a bit of DOF will look great too...just my ideas... your image looks really good and good luck with your next! see ya Tes

Seems like you put a lot of work into this, good job.

What I like :

-The overall composition. Good hierarchy of elements

-The Horse : very good! great modeling, it's really the highlight of the piece. Nice pose too.

-the lower part of the picture : dramatic, it's nice

What I think could be improved :

- the lighting and hierarchy of values : the lighting is very dull, if you squint there is a lot of high contrast, bright spots that conflict to give a real focal point. You should build your lighting setup more dramatically, with more dark and low contrast areas , and only the high contrast areas on the important points of your picture (like the horse or your character)

-the overall design : the armors, etc feel a bit rushed and not very thought out, and not very interesting.

-the character's face is quite poor and not very defined

-the background : I would suggest working more with silhouettes and a lot more fog / smoke, so it doesn't conflict, visually, with the key elements of the piece (character, horse, and corpse on the ground)

As far as realism is going to be looked at, I really did enjoy the vultures in the background flying around. I believe that adding a vulture to the front at the dead elf on the ground would add more of an element of reality and bringing the viewer into the picture and feeling some type of emotion in it, disgust....

The skulls on the ground add more of a "The battle is over" feeling, thus adding more to the title of it being the last ride, and nobody is left... except him.

The fires in the background and the ground itself brings the battleground to life and allows me to feel captured into the feeling of the moment!

I agree about the face needing more detail but then again, in light of the subject... the detail that IS there, indicated that they are pale, sickly and lifeless thus they have lost their magical look they normally would have as 'elves'.

All in all, I feel this scene would depict a good outlook if elves were in a sci fi genre.

Hi there,
This is a cool image! never easy to make a pic with a horse..
One of the things I would say is that the details are very sharp and crisp everywhere on the image so the eye can't realy focus on a spot..when doing a still you have to drive the eyes of the spectator to focus on the part of the picture that is realy important,in that pic my eye just don't know where to stop or focus...
You could have for exemple just a beam of light on the guy and the horse keeping everything else a little darker ,You can also use some defocus as well...I know that you always want to show everything and all the work that you did..it's always hard to put a defocus on something you spend so much time modeling but it 's the final result that count..
Hope that helped..keep up the good work,
Sato.

Hi Rubens,
Overall image is great, very good job.
Really nice modelling for the horse.
Just three little crits :
-The face of the warrior needs to be a little more expressive
-The fire effects in the background have to light more the rocks behind
-The glow on the eyes of the horse and on the chest of the warrior is a little bit flashy.
Hope you understood my english and that help you.
Great Work !

what a complex scene! must have taken you days to build all that scenery!

your main character has lots of details and nice proportions, but you sould work harder on your compostion, especially with the light... some parts could be in shadows, some in a bright light.. most of the time lighting helps conveying a story, you should try ;)

keep it up!
