Working in 3D Studio Max 5:

I'm in the midst of animating a demo reel. Here is the issue. I have several carousel seats that spin in cirlces and go up and down (obviously). They are linked child to parent from the seat, to the arm, to the main drive. Now, these seats are supposed to be the platforms for my animated scenes/miniatures. I can get the miniature to link to the seat and move with it, but when the seat goes up, the miniature (being linked to the main drive rather than the seat itself) stays at the same level and does not move up and down with the seat. The question is... how do I get the miniature (grouped) to link to the seat (grouped) when it is the child of the main drive...

Not sure what the problem is. Could you please post a screengrab of the hierarchy?

It seems like you should just link the miniature to the seat.

It would sound that simple wouldn't it.. but noooo, some programer thought it would be much smarter to go the long route... I think that I'm just going to re-animate the whole thing. No use in fighting the stupidity of this thing.

I meant a screengrab of the Select By Name dialog, showing hierarchy. Or of the Schematic display. Can't really see the links you have here.

How about using a Link Constraint, or another non-traditional hierarchical tool?

Here's the screenshot(though it may look horrible cause of compression to get it on here). I've already re-animated the whole set simply cause I needed a test render by later today, but thanks for the help. It will definately come in handy in the near future...

Just tried it, the link constraint does work :applause: I never even thought to open that panel. Guess I tried everything but that :)
