View Full Version : hard body dynamics
akewt 02-11-2003, 10:56 AM hello. i want to make some text fall from the sky and bounce on the floor for a while and rest in a predefined place. this is hardbody dynamics i presume, but do i need a plugin like havok to achieve it?. i dont want to key it because im not very good/quick at it.

You could use the standard Dynamics engine in Max, but I would use SimCloth. Make a deflector plane, apply a SimClothMod, and make it a Deflector type. Do the same thing to the letters, and make it a rigid body type. Start Calculation, and you're done. You'll probably need to adjust some parameters to make the letters bounche. How to make the letters fall into a predefined place, i don't know right know. If i have some spare time, I'll check that out.

thx Martijn Wijmer, im am using reactor now, didnt realise its bundled with max trial.
my dilema now is how to make the dynamics anim fall to a certain point. does any1 know how to get the txt object to fall rattle around then settle in a predefined place.
thx ;)

Do a full simulation on a copy of the text, getting it to end up near where you want. Use that as a reference for keyframing the real text, adjusting it to land where and how you want.

yeah good idea posm. never thought o that. altho it will be keyframing and that takes me a long time.
theres things called point to point constraints in reactor but im having a hell of a job working them out. obviously i havent read the manual, im figuring it out by way of deduction. manuals are or clever ppl!!
