Hi,

Just felt like making a random prop for a level. Behold my gorgeous dumpster :D :rolleyes:

Poly count is 426, all told. Is that about what it should be? should it be higher? Lower?

i'd say higher...around 1000-1200 i'd say. get more detail in there

definatly go allitle higher i would shoot for 800-1000, i really dont think you need much more detail, but could use quite a few a few smoothing polys.

kind of poor poly distribution in my opinion. It looks better but why ad all of that other detail and still have blocky wheels? on the side of of the dumpster you have that really smooth black piece i think some of that could have been rougher and the wheels or the lid joint smoother. you should also model the traingle shapes on the front brim, That is something that would define your model alot more than some of the other details you added. Anyways it looks better :) just some crits

Tips for ya!

- Round the wheels off.
- Round the edges where it needs it, like on any smooth corner.
- If you still under budget, add some dints or some kind of destruction.
- Add the paper tear at the front of the dumpster.
- Add ridges under the lip at the front (3 polys each)
- Remove the edge Loops in the middles of the dumpster body. Kinda like u had in the first version.

its coming on tho :)

you need to use more tris....everything doesn't and SHOULD NOT be quads, which it looks like you are doing right now. alot of areas it looks like you are extending a loop all the way across the model to terminate at the other side just so you don't have tris. you should just cut that over to a corner as soon as you can to save polys

I have to get rid of those symmetry lines and a few other tweaks, but I think I'm pretty close to done (I'd damn well better be, what's it been, a month?? :hmm: )

should I delete the bottom? It's not like anyone would see it anyways.

Ha! Those are awesome future dumpsters!

If it were me, I would build it fairly high and then make 1 or 2 lods so I could use them in the not so distant future when hardware is better. Maybe 2k for the original, 1k for the 1st lod and 500 for the 2nd lod. Great reference, keep at it :)

Also you can get a lot more bang for your buck if you dont't model the main bucket as 1 piece. model the lip and details separately and just butt up the bucket. Same w/ the wheels.
