Hi,

I've worked some more on the lighting for my conference room.

Here is the lighting i had before:

And here is the revised version:

Any improvement?

Hey there!

Your new lighting looks good! The soft shadows are way better.I think you need to use some more glossy textures.
Nice room by the way.:)

Definately improvement. Your first scene looks almost like default lighting. The second one is much better. I agree with mer about the glossy textures. Also, there seems to be no light coming from those three windows on the left. If its daytime, you might want some light coming through. And if its night and the room is lit entirely by light fixtures, then maybe have some reflections in those windows.

carlg,

It looks you are going into right direction for sure... Here is my comment.
When you're lighting the scene, watch for shadows. It adds 'realism.'
Since CG light does not act exactly alike real world light, it requires 'tweakings' to match to the realistic light. Take a look at the attahced picture. I added a couple circles in it, and it shows the shadows that created from a single light source. This may not what the scene would be look alike under the given lighting conditions, considering multiple lights in the room.

Keep up the good work!

cheers...

Thanks for all your help.

Pduff: As for light coming through the windows, I tried that earlier and it was casting the most godawful ugly, streaky shadows you can imagine on the floor. I couldn't get rid of them so i just decided to **** it and change it to night. By the way i'm using Default scanline with radiosity enabled in 3d max, so if you know how to fix this, i'm always amenable to changeing my setup...

rybeck: So, from what i understand, you're saying that those spots are throwing shadows from the wrong lights? I mean that the shadows that you point out should be washed out by the closer lights?

I don't see any reason the standing device get shadow on the wall, considering location and distance from the light source. To make such shadow for the object there should bee (a) light source(s) comes from opposite direction (where I guesstimate from near 2nd window on lefthand side), which doesn't exist.
Same thing goes to shadows on the table top. They looks to me all litted by a light source not exist in the sceneas well, according to their shading direciton.
If you want to control the shadow, you may setup shadow only light which won't add no more illumination on lighting, but have shadow in right place.
