Well you don't directly, if that's what you mean. Can't do that.
Some sort of conversion is needed. I suggest going to Highend3d.com, and looking in their Maya plugins area for an export-tool. I don't have first-hand experience going from Maya to Max I'm afraid.

even easier way...find an obj importer for max. then export your scene/object from maya via obj. (poly only) nurbs are not recognized by any free importers out there. Then import it into max via obj.
easy.

I'm just having a bit of trouble getting the export to go smoothly.
In maya 4.5 i goto export all and choose OBJexport and have everything ticked or on (default). I export the file and it creates a obj file.
I then go into max and use OBJ2MAX V3.1 to import the file and I just leave the default setting for that dialogue aswell and nothing comes up?
any ideas
or better importers ?
aw wait the model i'm trying to export is all in nurbs...whoops
and crap

Might have better luck with the free FBX plugins. I like 'em.

When you download the plugins, there's a PDF in there that describes all the features and limits. You can export NURBS from MAya, but I think they're imported into Max as triangles...
