View Full Version : Direct 3D Problem
Jurenic 02-11-2003, 05:37 AM Why can't I work in Direct 3D? This is what it says when I switch it to Direct 3D:
"Unable to create or initalize hardware accelerated Direct 3D device. Atempting to use the Direct 3D Software reference Resarizer insalled as a part of DirectX SDK."
When I click "OK", then...
"Unable to create accelerated Direct 3D device with the necessary requirements. Using the Direct 3D Software Reference Rasterizer."
My viewports are black, and useless.
I use an ATI Rage Furry 128 Pro.
Windows XP Home
P4, 1.7GHZ
Thank you.

You may have the latest drivers but that may be the problem. I have an ATI Radeon and discovered that I had to go back about 4 versions in order to achieve stability and harmony b/w CG apps and games. I use max but I don't bother using Direct3D and use OpenGL instead.
Try going back a few driver sets to see if you can get rid of the error. It will be frustrating but it's all you can do short of getting a new vid card.
Good luck!

make sure you have the latest directx... as they've come out with a new version not too long ago
and you can:
goto start > run > type in dxdiag and run the directx tests and see what comes up.

I have direct x 8.1 and 9.0, my tests are fine and they seem to work fine. How do you "Roll back" a driver??

goto my computer and right click properties..
then click device manager, open up display adapter-double click yours (mine being nvidia), and hit rollback driver

note- you can only be running one version of directx. also the only way to uninstall directx9 would be to reinstall windows.

Thanks for your rpplys.
jadedchron, i knew how to do that, but the windows can't find the older version. So what I wanted to ask is how to do it manually?

you have to have an older driver installed to do it manually or automatically. you need to just uninstall the driver and reinstall a different one
