I think we've all probably seen this trailer, since it's just so badass, but now it's on http://www.apple.com/trailers/ which means two things:

1) super, super fast download time
2) it is now available to a wider audience (those not into CG, but into movies and trailers

hoorah! :airguitar

Wow, that is indeed sick! It says it's going to be an illustrated book but, why not a short as well (or feature)? Or maybe it is going to be a short, anybody know? The CG was really amazing, as was the design. The only thing that didn't sit well with me was the robot at the end smoking a pipe. What the heck is that about? It looked totally out of place IMO. Everything else was sweet tho.

yes, ive been waiting to actually see it in motion for a while now......doug chiang rulez!!!

unfortunatly this was just a trailer they made to advertise the art book he did..........there arent really any plans for a short or a feature based on it, but he has said it is possible and he would love to do one :)

so there is a chance!!!

very impressive animations. It is almost wasted that it is only going to be a book.

I dunno, take Star Wars Episode 1 and 2, they looked a lot better on paper than on film :D

Couldn't agree more.

Altough a good book is fun too (yes, you can call me nutz). Let's hope the story is good enough ;)

this might sound like a stupid question but is there a different url for this download? I'd rather download this rather than stream it as I have 56k.

No9: it doesn't have to stream.... just hit the stop button and wait for it to finish, then (if you have Quicktime Pro) you can download it to your harddrive using the button on the far right.

I really loved the animation of the walk cycle. The feet were really impressive. I think that there wasn't enough bobbing of the head. They probably have heavy heads and to take that amount of weight and move there would be a more accentuated motion when walking, but that is just my opinion. Those textures and backgrounds were amazing. I can only dream of doing them so well. Kudos.

This has been in the works for a long time now, still looks great though. I though I read ages ago that they were thinking about a movie but don't know if I'm remembering correctly. Man, imagine the tous:)

I don't know about the other ppl, but i really don't like D. Chiang's robot designs! his ships & vehicles are so much better. I can't understand why his robots are more popular?! ;) (i don't talk about Robota generally)
(I'm ready for war, brings the battle droids out!)

they looked a lot better on paper than on film
I strongly agree!

Very impressive animation and artwork in the second trailer ! Like a lot of TV ads though it suffers from the, "Cool Ad, but what product were they trying to sell?" syndrome.

My concern is that after watching it I still new nothing about the storyline and could not tell if the robots were the "good guys" or the "bad guys" . Sure they had guns, but with the opening scene resembling a "heros walk" I took them for possible freedom fighters.

I then watched the first trailer and it was made prety clear early in it that the robots were "not the good guys". A shot was shown of sailing ships being attacked. Something simular needs to be placed early on in the second trailer as well.

Wow, that is alsom. I love the concept wish for the short film or some thing. Well they got all of this so far I think it will be a good idea for them to make some kind of short or full motion picture.

Wow! THat was awesome!!! They did an amazing job on the animation, they look just like his paintings! I loved the sound, especially the music from the first trailer!! Does anybody know where it's from?

It's such a classic tale but if one is told good, those are the best.

So was this origanally going to be a film, or was it going to be a book all along?

It's called "Oh Fortuna". At least, that's the version called that I have. BTW, there are two versions: a modern one (remix) and a classic one. You'll want the classic.

damn that trailer looks good. Too bad it is gonna be a book not a movie. That would've been badass. Is it gonna be a novel or is it gonna be a story accompaning with pictures?

stumbled on to this trailer yesterday, was looking for the KILL BILL one (awesome by the way). The CGI in that clip looks nice but I'm surprised no one has said this but its.

SO

STAR WARS! (not neccessarily a bad thing)

I didn't find the robot design to be too fantastic, the tribal slant is interesting but hardly groundbreaking. I did however love the wicked grass, clouds and natural type effects in the clip. It did reinforce the theme even more so then having the robots in an industrial context.

I got a free copy about 2 weeks ago and it's wonderful! Reminds me of the old Sci-Fi hard cover books I had as a kid!
