HDRIBL's a great renering method. However, we've only got a few publically availible natural lightprobes. How hard would it be to take the photos and do the manipulations neccesary to create my own. What sort of equipment would be neccesary, and what kind of procedure should be followed?

Aslo, where can one get a lightprobe?

You need a digicam (http://www.dpreview.com/) and a lightprobe (http://www.norfolkleisure.sagesite.co.uk/dic_giftware_prod.htm) -- that's all.

Then lookup Paul Debevec's HDR Shop site (http://www.debevec.org/hdrshop/) for detailed infos on how to aquire and combine your images into a .HDR file.

when you say only a few, last I looked there were many dozens of lightprobe images free on the web. Of course now that hdri is all the rage, the've probably got a price tag on em. Well, theyre easy enough to make. And of course you'll need hdri shop. Still free.
