View Full Version : From Triangulate to Quadrangulate

ok. I'm a Max user but trying to get my skills in Maya up to par with Max. I'm finding it to be a big change from being so used to flipping edges in Max...and when I mean edges I mean the bold lines and dashed. With Maya however, I find that if I want to see the edges I have "triangulate" but even then I'm can only flip the bold lines not the dashed...and then once I've triangulated them I am basically stuck since Quadrangulate seems to compress and modify the triangles.

Is there anyway I can flip and turn edges like one can in Max...but still keep the ability to view the model in just quads? I mainly model lower polygon models and thus making sure the triangles are flipped properly is crucial for me.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

I'm pretty sure there's a flip edge tool on highend (or in Maya already?) as for the hidden-quad-edge problem, try looking under polygon options in Window>Settings/Preferences>Preferences...

Ya I got the hidden edges to view no sweat...however, "flip-edge" doesn't want to flip the dashed edges...just the bold line quad edges.
Anyone?
Thanks again for the post!

you can use the poly brush to flip edges using the "o" key...its with artisan which is nice....also you can only use it on triangle edges. The hidden edges dont really exist...so you would have to split them manually.

to split the quads that are are non-planar....just use "cleanup" under the polys menu to select all faces that are nonplaner...then go select "triangulate".....then use the poly brush "o" to flip edges
