You should try caking on some heavy opaque whites on top of your water, perhaps even adding some heavy speckling to create "foam."
The moss on the tree looks super, but it needs some sharper contrast to make it "pop."
Great work so far, you've definitely set the scene.

Thank you very much Tingham. I will try to get some contrast in there. And the foam is also a good idea the water is rather quiet as i imagine it in there but there will be definetly some foam floating downstream. And thank you again, it is nice to have feedback. Its amazing how much sometimes some comment can help you.

Are you doing the EON contest?

No... I concidered it but i thought that maybe next time. I have knowledge but i lack the practice i think, not just yet. When the net one comes i will be on board.
Are you doing EON?

Yeah - I'm still trying to settle on a subject for the contest but I'm definitely going to do a 2d illustration. I've entered a few contests in the past but never completed one. For this go-round that's my goal, plain and simple. I'm not interested in placing or anything of that nature I just want to justify all the money I've spent on this "hobby." You should do it, you're definitely good enough - just look at some of the entrants ( myself not discluded :)

Little bit about my backround, it is my 3rd year in artschool and im learning general design its a 4year course so ill be graduating next year after that i would like to go to canada (i just like the place) to learn cgi and work. Cant say all i would like in few words..but well i think there will be plenty of chanches to do that in the future. and u all can get to know me.
And now i ask the same from you, are u participating in EON challange?

hello again,
I have done some minor updates to my waterfalls picture. I added foam and some texture to the cliffs over the river.
(this little bit dirty and rough style of the pic is intentional)
(the goal is to achive well composed and detailed pic yet ltlle bit rough in style)

And there are some things that are beginning to bother me, forexample "can i call this finished, or what can i do to improve?". What I mean is, should i call this finished and move on to another picture and improve my skills on next one and try to avoid mistakes i made on this one? I guess this is higly personal matter and a matter of learning style, but still it would be nice to know how do you guys approach to your paintings and your practices. but it is also possible that I should just let it be for awhile till I begin to see things i could improve...

The topic i wanted to rise was "when does the painting gets tired and overdone, and is it possible it happens?". When i think of old masters then it is not even a painting if it has less than ca 20 layers (oil on canvas).
My painting tutors from school say that painting acts like a rollercoaster, at first its raw, then it gets a bit riper and better until you have to take it to the next level (and the result is that the painting worsens,...at first )and then again it gets better end better till u need to raise the level again. It seems logical enough and i have seen it happening in practise but i think that at some point the painting just wears off,...emotionally (when that happens should the painter but it aside and wait till the inspiration returns? it usually does in undefined time).
The problem is how can u keep the freshness, it is not nessecary when u let the painting to live a life of its own but when u want to control the process then its different and a whole lot more difficult.
At some point you are probably good enough to achive the objective fast enough so that u dont kill the painting (dont let the spirit of the painting to get too old).
me/ Just thinking out loud....
P.S comments on waterfalls pic are still welcome and apprecieted.:)
P.P.S I think the reason im raising so deep and edgy topics is that im griefing my HDD wich took its existence to a next level and died. It served me well with all its 4 plates and 160gb capacity (and as always those things happen when u have just spend all your free resourse, resulting i cant afford new one till next month, it is a relief that i have multi hdd system)

Take a day off from it. A set period of time. You'll be thinking about what you're going to do when you get back to it while you work on something else.
My favorite part of the process is the coming back to it.

yeap actually i agree it was only just reacently when i discovered the joy of coming back. Back then i thought that all great things have to come overnight (my skills included) but now i kind of enjoy working and feeling the progression. :)

Awesome, looks like the bunkers from Call of Duty 2. Only at night, and probably closer to what they actually looked like.
Cool stuff, you should definitely set up a portfolio here at http://portfolio.cgsociety.org/ if you haven't already.
