View Full Version : Vanishing Polys
I created a poly cube and scaled it to the size i liked.
Took another poly cube and tried to difference boolean
them. Instead of the first one having an opening
where i expected it to , both poly cubes vanish without
a trace. Any ideas guys?

i'm not sure what a fix for your problem is, but i have also seen this problem. Usually it is with polygons that have some history (extrudes, etc.), or ones where all the normals aren't correct or other irregularities. usually on a basic operation like this the boolean has worked.
if anyone else has a solution i would also be interested. i am not sure if this is a bug in maya's boolean operation, or what?

This is a common problem when dealing with booleans. After making sure all problems with normals have been fixed (which should be, if they are just generic primitives) you have to place them in such a way that the one that is doing the subtracting is partially exposed to the outside and not completely inside the other one.
Look at this for a clarification:
