Hello all.
I'm new here, so bear with me. Basically, I used painter awhile back, and I really enjoyed it, and then I didn't have the chance to work with it for awhile, as computers were innaccessible to me (irrelevant, long story...) I've recently become very interested in photography, and I have this picture that I took that I am absolutely in love with.

My question is, have any of you experimented with this before? Do you have any suggestions? I'm actually painting it in my 2D visual arts class as well (not on the computer, with an actual paintbrush & paint & canvas, heh) and I want to see the differences in results.

I'm using a Wacom Graphire 3 4x5 tablet, and I have Corel Painter IX.5 . I don't know if there's anything else I should list, really.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions/ideas/advice you have. :D

Sorry, I couldn't make sense of what you're asking.

You have a picture....and your using it as a reference for a painting using real canvas and paints...

I'm not clear where Corel Painter comes in, in your experiment.

(I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm just not sure what you're question is about.)

Hi reinah,

I understand you to say you want to compare a traditional painted version of your photo with a painted version of your photo done using Corel Painter IX.5.

If that's the case, and in any case, yes, many of us have done paintings in Painter IX.5 and earlier versions based on photos.

Here are a few tutorials focused mainly on painting from photos:

In this tutorial, "Transforming a Photograph into a Painting with Corel Painter 8", Jeremy Sutton shows how to use a photo to create a painting in Painter 8. It can also be used with Painter IX.

In this tutorial, "Using the Quick Clone Feature in Corel Painter IX", Don Seegmiller doesn't use a photo but the principles can be applied to photos as well:

This tutorial, "Using the Blender Brushes to Paint Photos in Corel Painter IX", provides a method that can be used when painting photos:

Also read the Corel Painter IX newsletter, "The Painter Canvas". In each issue there are tips and tutorials some of which may apply to painting photos or turning photos into paintings but there are other subjects covered as well. On the page linked below, you can subscribe and receive the newsletter via e-mail each month. Click the "Sign up" link near the bottom of the page:

You'll find some tutorials in this forum, by John Derry. If this link doesn't work, do an Advanced Search in this forum for all threads started by pixlart:

There are several threads in that list that deal with painting from photos.

Have fun!
