View Full Version : Can someone please be nice enough to do this quick test export? Will pay if need be.
thethule 11-17-2006, 02:34 PM Hi Everyone.
I am in need of very urgent quick help. We are trying to get some data from xsi to max and need to know if Softimage foundation will export it before we buy a copy. I know that there is a Max8 export option, but on the 30 day trial, it doesnt seem to work properly. If someone has 5 minutes, and has XSI and Max could you be kind enough to just open it and export it? its a very very simple scene. A few dummies and a camera and a cube is all. No materials or skinning or anything. We would need the file back as soon as possible as we are very late with this work already.
The file can be found at: http:// khachfe DOT com/xsitest/ (http://%20khachfe%20dot%20com/xsitest/)
As i said, i am willing to pay for anyones time. Please let me know. Thanks
Please email me at mkhachfe AT gmail DOT com.

What data exactly do you need to transfer? Geo, Null's, SRT animation, Camera animation? All of that is pretty painless. Things start getting tricky when you have envelopes and rigs.

Yep, thats it. i just need the dummy, camera and objects. And all their animations. There shouldnt be any envelopes or anything difficult. No rigs either. Thanks
Should really be a 2 min job, but like i said, the demo version of foundation doesnt want to export. We will be purchasing it if we know for sure it will work with a full commercial license. We have another 40 motions to export and time is running out!!

Your download link is dead...
Anuway It should work with demo version also. When exporting XSI should ask from you can it install plugin for exporting to 3ds max. Just answer yes and continue.
Anothes option is FBX. Simple animation should export without problem.
And there is more option for you if needed. Point Oven. It will export pointcached mesh.

Sorry about the link. try this www DOT khachfe DOT com then go to the "xsitest" folder. The file is in there
The exporting in the demo does ask me if i want to install plugins etc... its doing it all as it should, it just doesnt create any file when you export. very weird. As for fbx export, that isnt working either. have installed it on 2 machines and no joy. the xsi file is fine as its opening ok in foundation.
Would you be able to try it again with the new link? Thanks a lot.

This is very strange. If I cerate own scene and export it all will export without problem, but with your scene it wount export at all as you sayd... Hmm... I'll test little bit more.
Could you send *.scn file no *.xsi?

OK, I solved your problem. Do next so you should get correct file exported.
1. Your file was *.xsi so just import it to XSI.
2. Then save it as normal XSI scene (*.scn).
3. Merge that file to new empty scene.
4. Export it as 3ds max file.
I think problem was scene hierarchy.
