Massive Black has just launched a new atelier for Concept Artists:

Looks very cool... but geared to people with a lot of experience already. I wish they would do a similar program for people looking to start from the beginning... to build a good foundation right from the start.

Thanks. In regards to what you assume the program is geared toward, you are mistaken. The program starts everyone from the beginning of traditional art foundation training. Regardless of their portfolio or experience, the students all start from step one of their art training.

Talent and a portfolio that shows great work ethics and proves that the artist really "wants it" are what gets their foot in the door. If an artist has not yet picked up a pencil, obviously they had best get working for a couple years before applying. Graduates of this system will be prepared to move directly into their careers through Massive Black's incredibly deep connection pool...or to MB, should they choose. It is not experience, but maturity that we look for.

The student that was offered the full ride scholarship just turned 18. She is working very hard on her own and is perhaps one of the most talented young artists anywhere.

Best,

Jason Manley

And she certainly deserved it! Greentopaz is one of the most talented and humblest young artists i've ever had the fortune to meet.

We are very hopeful that she will be able to take advantage of the opportunity she is being offered. We just offered the scholarship to her yesterday so there is much to be done I am sure.

There are two other scholarships available currently...both for half ride tuition. They are merit based. Those with the strongest portfolios will get the help there courtesy of MB.

Best,

JM

Green Topaz.

Is that her handle or her real name? Does everyone at MB get assigned 2 colors by which they shall henceforth be known? : -)

Looks wicked cool. Congrats to both MB and GT.

I am very interested in submitting a portfoilio and getting on this course in the near future. It says on the atelier website that tuition fees are 600 a month. Does this mean for the whole acedemic year or are there grants for international students, ie from Europe?

I'm aware I should be emailing the site for these specific enquires , but I couldnt help posting here( the answers being appicable to most onlookers).

And while I'm at it, is there anything like this course in Europe? since I've being hard up to find anything similiar thus far.

Thanks for any replies in advance.
