"Dell is apparently going ahead with plans to host an invite-only press event inside of Second Life on Tuesday morning at 10:15 AM PST to announce that they’ll have an ongoing presence within the virtual world.

There aren’t many details as to exactly what’s being announced, but our guess is that they are launching a virtual, configurable computer store that’s gamer-focused, or something similar."

None taken, of course! Although I have to disagree - I think there have been far worse posts around here recently (not naming any names....)

/me wonders what they (Dell) thinks of the new copybot that's going around in Second Life :D

And they though copying software was bad

Dell doesn't care about CopyBot or any other duplication code. They're not selling virtual goods, they're selling real products. They give away the virtual object people create at their virtual store (at a station which is quirky, but not that far from where rapid-manufacturing is headed). That virtual object is the equivalent of a product brochure. And if people want to buy the real system, it links to the Dell website's sales/order page. (I posted about it couple days ago - http://blog.rebang.com/?p=1092 ).
