View Full Version : After Effects for Web Animation ?
lashy 11-15-2006, 05:03 PM Hello
IS After effects used for graphics animation used in Web pages?
i've been tryin to make animation for web pages, but when i export my animation as swf, it sometimes results in swf files of a large size. this large size files are of no use of internet use.
Is there any way in which the fize size of the swf can be reduced or something ?
thanks

AE only can export vector based data if you use vectors such as Illustrator files and only use effects that are supported for vectorbases swf output (not many). anything esle will be rastered into pixelbased data and will use lots of space. when exporting to swf you can choose to ignore non-vectorbased date. that way you will see what needs to be rastered.
but why dont you use flash? much better for this.

There are a ton of sites that are using After effects or similiar type packages for animation on the web, and you will see more and more as bandwith increases. There are just a few things you really need to watch out for.
Size is the main one - here is a few things you can do
flash 8 can support alpha channels when it imports movies, keep this in mind when you are creating your movie. You could creat a smaller (dimension size) animation that looks like it fits into a bigger interface in flash.
To keep both size down and quality up - Render your movie from after effects in an uncompressed quicktime format and convert it into a .flv using the flash video encoder
or convert it when you bring it into flash itself. You can use the preset quality settings or customize them to get better results. Higher bandwith settings = better quality image and larger file size.
Hope this helps, let me know - I could be more specific depending on how much you know about Flash
here are a couple cool examples of video used in flash - just for inspiration

twistercash has got it right,
Also... framerates are very important to keep file sizes down. You can export an image sequence with alpha out of Aftereffects at whatever frame rate you need and then perhaps use a vector animation at a different frame rate behind that, keeping your file size small.
Check this web graphic out... (http://www.thediscusforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28) AE to Flash.

Igor : I think I met you down at the last Gnomon Workshop, I could be wrong, but it seemed like you were the guy who was using lightwave for mo.graphics and owned a t-shirt shop in a Denver mall. You were getting a little tipsy when we talked, I was one of the guys from Utah. Hope business is good for you brotha!
