Looks like they are changing their site now too. I just purchased XSI 5.0 (Student Version) about a month ago. I hope that I'll be able to upgrade.

Amazing, upgrade to Foundation! Still have to read more but that seems a given for me with MR3.5.

From what i have been reading this is a very wise XSI release. Pipeline trouble solving is the only way for XSI to get into existing setups and recovering it once established position.

I know that for a user like me it isnt very good. I prefered that they'll improve Nurbs or would make a step in direction of T-splines and not so topology dependent modeling. I didnt read everything but i dont expect any big improvements in that. But i think if the pipeline improvements work it will be a big step in XSI grow.

Now what I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade to essentials from the student Advanced copy of 5.11? And if there is a discount offered? Also is the dongle still necessary?

From when I questioned about it, no.

I'll trust that they'll get the particles going soon. Otherwise I'm fairly pleased with many of the newest features and can't wait to give it a try and see what it's worth at my level. It's nice that the layered animation is included in all of the versions- many people have wanted something like this for some time and I look forward to using it.

I look forward to hear more about the other, smaller, but important improvements as well that don't get bullet points on a feature list. Most of the promotional material seems geared towards people thinking of switching to XSI and so I'm looking forward to some more indepth videos and documentation.

My question regarding academic licensing and dongles is not mentioned in the FAQ.

Me too! I was surprised at how many little things were added into v5 (coming from 4.0) that just make life easier. Not a huge bullet point, but adding snapping to the temp anchor point, I think, made a big improvement. So no longer did you need to navigate to the center, and then move it; you could just hold ctrl and move it whereever.. Those are the pleasant discoveries that you learn about once you start using the new version..

I guess I expect CA to be always upgraded in XSI since that's 50% what made me migrate to it. I consider it a given from release to release- esp. now that it's their moto. The other 50 is all the nice, little things. I want to see stuff like that and the bug fix list as well!

I'm a lowly FND user though- so I'm holding out for now since 5.11 is doing almost everything I need and then some, and the new features in FND aren't directly needed by me (who am I kidding- the layered system looks awsome!). I'm going to be downloading it and looking over what new things users find about it in the next months and then decide.

If the viewport/animation updates faster it'll probably push me over the edge alone...

I wonder what the difference is between the current model/reference system and this new Delta thing..

just to clarify the hair plugin works for :::
Note: XSI 5.11 required so 5.11 and 6.0 and not for xsi 4.2

still it's really cheap and looks good too!

That seems to be their new crack dealer pricing. They did that for the last release too. VERY nice for everyone envolved.

This new deformer sounds absolutely amazing...until then i have been using object to edge constraints for things like buttons and stuff.... i wonder if this will make it in XSI 6 FND

Don't quote me on that, but I think it's part of the new syflex deformers, not a generic geo deformer, and even if it was it still wouldn't address constraining issues (for the record there's a number of effective setups already you can use for constraining something to soft surfaces)

Hey Rafael, how are you pal? Even if it is only for Syflex cloth....I actually learned how to make buttons on a cloth surface....I posted it in the Cool Things No One Knows in XSI thread...and it works like a charm...
