Hi all.

I am getting into rigging and am currently rigging a Mr. Potato Head model that I made for my animation class.

To my question. I am wondering what would be the best way for me to set up rig for his eyebrows. The reason I am asking is that his eyebrows are a seperate piece of geometry.

I currently have an eye set up for blinking a few simple expressions through attributes I added and are used through set driven key. I am wondering if I should set up a few bones inside each eyebrow and control them with the same type of set up, adding an attribute and set driven keys? Any other ideas?

You can see another thread for the model here...

yeah, I think bone would work just fine, since they are a seperate piece of object that get attach to the potato head. I would not do it any other way.

Thanks for your response.

Just to make sure, you are saying set up a few bones in the eyebrow mesh, and control the mesh using those bones?

you have to create some strechy bones for the eyebrows and control them

if yoy want to see something you can download a facial rig from my website

i hope this will be useful for you

Yeah, I don't think you need to do anything crazy, so I would say just FK chain would be fine. You really need to know what you want the eyebrows to do. Just bend and stuff like that, right? If that's the case then yes, just go ahead and set up FK chain for it.

acamporota: I really appreciate your post and extending the use of your rig to me, though I am using Maya. I will be taking up Max next year, so I will remember it then :)

Illusion-shadow: I just want the eyerows to go up and out at a diaganol for when he is angry, and to curve around the eye when he is happy, and straight out, when he is nuteral.

Hope this helps. I am making progress. Will keep u posted.

Thanks!

I wanted to update you all on the eyebrow buisiness.

I went ahead and just used blend shapes. It worked right off the bat and for what I am doing is going to work great.

I used bones by themselves and splines IK with the prior bone set up and it just wasnt happining for me.

I am currently in the process of moving and have been since last Friday. I should have some updated renders soon.

Thank you all again for your help!
