She is fantastic, you even gave her character. the leaf on the first shot seems a bit hastilly cut out nd maybe a little too bright in the shadows around the larva. the texturing on the legs is fantastic, forthat mater it is great everywhere else too, the only thing i would like to see is in the eyes, there is always a highlight that points directly at the viewer in mantidae. it is usually 3 concentric circles of white black and white again (looks kind of spooky too.

fantastic stuff, thanks for sharing

oops sorry for the highlight i meant black (brown) white black not 3 concentric circles of white black and white again. try putting one on your finger and mooving your hand round, they will look you streight in the eye the whole time. they have a great walk too, any chance of seeing her walk? :)

Woww...I really like these, especially the second one for some reason. The colors and ambiance of it overall I think, plus the pose of the critter looking at you like that. I love the pale green against the pale peach of the background, very soothing. Captures a bright late summer day, to me anyway.

Every time i look at him (sorry i made a mistake, i thought it was a her because of size) i cant beleive how good the texturing and lighting, it is the most perfect cg mantid i have seen. On comparison to the real thing i am amazed how much detail you have put in and how accurately you have added it. I have to look at them under a disecting microscope to check on your details.

I hope you do not mind i have edited your picture to show how the eye markings move to follow the observer.
Mantids have some very developed eyes for insects that have a telephoto effect and trap the light very well if it is perpendicular to the individual lenses. i have attempted to show it on your closeup. In lightwave i would try to recreate it by linking the diffuse channel to the angle of insedence of the camera. ie if the direction of the camera is the same as the normall of the surface i would set the diffuse level to ~0 but as the direction of the camera changes from the normall it should change to its previous value.

I am embarrased to say this as the work is just so good, but it is only because it is so good that i am so excited by it.

goood job!
There's something wrong with the leaf on the foreground of the first image... it doesn't look natural, perhaps it's too stiff or just too sharp. Adjust this, and you'll have a masterpiece!

ok this just in simple, plain english "amazing" I guess we now know how National Geagraphic is going to make their next documentaries, not to mention the still lives and the detail they will be able to capture, no more time to waste on waiting and waiting, well maybe just some waiting for the renders to complete ofcourse!

Nice nice nice
awsome and lovely at the same time...
Bravo

wooops I forgot to mention that eventhough it looks "on top of it" you could maybe lower the light intensity just a little, your bug is just that one step away from being burned to pieces and that would definately be a shame!

Amazing work!!!.... The only thing that seemed a bit off to me was the image with it on the leaf. The leaf did not seem to be bending with the weight of the Mantis and the one visible foot looked disconnected from the surface of the leaf.

I sure hope to see more of your work soon.

good work!i like it!

做的不错,如果背景图片选的好一点,
然后角度再挑好一点应该会有更好的效果,
最好是局部的特写,更有视觉冲击力!

OK, since nobody asked. Why is the thread topic "Devil Horse" for an image of a Praying Mantis ?

P.S. Nice lighting and texture work.
