A friend told me that there were some people inquiring about Characteshop's status. I read a thread on this, but I was unable to find it, so I decided to start a new one on this. I hope it's not a problem. The thing is that my web space provider (it's right, the site was hosted at free2surf) decided to shut down without any notice. I'm currently securing a new hosting place for the site. As soon as the site has a new home, I'll let everyone know. I'll try to keep up the quality standards the site has had from the start, and that the content will be what you expect from it.

However, I'm in the middle of a crossroad here, so I thought that the best thing to do would be ask. As you know, the site's primary focus has been character rigging and animation for intermediate to advanced users. A few months ago, I announced that I'd try to, slowyl, cover other topics regarding techincal knowledge. This is still my intention. Unfortunately, the site's crash, and an unusual amount of work that has dumped on my lap recently, have prevented me from supporting the site as much as I'd like. It is still my goal to turn Charactershop into the best resource there is for Technical Directors, focusing on 3ds max primarily. This would mean dweling into topics such as scripting, lighting, shading, etc., all from a techincal POV. As much as I hate it, it'd also mean making the site grow at a slower pace, since I'm the only one developing it. I'd like to hear from you what do you think. Do you feel there is a need to cover all these techincal areas, or would you rather see the site stick to character development? I's like to hear what you think, since growing might mean a lot of changes beforehad, such as even changing the site's name (and I'm about to buy the domain name, to avoid more of these unfortunate events). I'm really eager to know what you think. Thanks a lot for your help, and hopefully, I'll see you at Charactershop's (or whatever it becomes now) new home... and yours. Cheers!

All of that would be great information. There is not much resource from the technical angle of it, and is a subject I am very interested in.

Thanks for all of your work!

Hi Sergio,
I'd like to see it stick to technical information related to character rigging. It would be great to have an all-in-one resource for the more technical stuff about this process, but it seems like that would take an awful lot of time. And as you say, you are but one person running this. I'm just more in favor of specialized sites --or rather sites that focus on just a few things but really cover them well. Your tutorial on rigging was so good and taught me so much, I guess I selfishly want a site where I can 'pick your brain' so to speak. Adding some insite on skinning (especially in Max with both Physique and Skin Mod) would be great --as this is in such simpatico with rigging.

Still, whatever kind of site you put up will be devoured by all of us who don't have the advantage of working at an animation house and are learning this stuff outside of any good instruction at school. Thanks for your effort.
