View Full Version : working with transparency...
mabuffaloe 02-10-2003, 01:58 AM I'm trying to figure out how to deal with transparency between Maya and Photoshop. What kind of file should i use? should i just paint a color map and a transparency map? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

This is very easy, actually, and should work for any 3D program. Render your image and save it as TGA (make sure you render on a black background). Fire up Photoshop, open the image. Now to confirm that the transperency convertion has been succesful, put the image in the top of another image, or select the "alpha channels" in the "channels" window to check the alpha intensity.

You paint a transparency map as you would any other map. The white pixels are, the more transparent the surface will be.
The actual process of using image maps should be covered in your Maya manual.
